Domaine Mont de Marie

Very happy to report that we have lots of new wine on the way, and today we'd like to start with a winery that's quickly becoming a very brief season of the wine year. And this year that is all the more the case with suffering yields in the 2021 vintage. That said, the wines are here and ready to ship!

Thierry Forestier is a really fascinating person who makes wine in a southern corner of the Gard, less than an hour north of Montpellier. He came into our acquaintance the way nearly all of our winemakers do, at the recommendation of old friends.  After a low yielding harvest in 2017, Eric Pfifferling of L'Anglore fame was looking for grapes to buy. No doubt delighted by Thierry's beautiful vineyards, the purchase was made and subsequently Thierry got to taste his fruit under the vinicultural stewardship of M. Pfifferling.

Everything changed that day. Thierry had no idea that his grapes could make anything like the wine from Eric's cellar. And that was a good thing! For many years, Thierry was making wine that was more typical for the region: bigger wines, longer macerations, aging in newer oak, and all the rest. The wines today are far more stripped down, lighter on their feet, and beautifully ethereal. They typify the grace and elegance many of our producers find in these southern terroirs of granitic sand: a wave of good fruit, followed by a vinous precision like the great terroir wines of the world. If you know the wines, you love them. If not, I hope you get to try them soon!
